"I shoot a Mathews, cause I dont wanna Hoyt them"

« on: August 20, 2008, 10:54:53 PM »

Had a customer bring me a Sika Deer, that After opening it up I find that it was caped and salt was thrown on it, and put in the freezer, I applied stop rot to it like crazy, as it thawed and got the head out, then was out of time so I refroze, and about a week later removed it turned everything and again liberally applied stop rot, salted, and then resalted the next day.  Lot of grease in those little guys I see too.  I folded the cape up today for shipping to my tanner, But was curious as to what you all would say the chances of something going foul on this cape were.  Thanks in advance,

If it didn't smell and it wasn't loose yet, probably pretty good. Althought the second freeze/thaw didn't help plus freezing a salted hide is never good.  I have done several with good success.
