i have a early season northern cape that i put in the pickle today. it was comnpletely covered in ticks when the guy brought it to me so i sprayed with raid and froze immediately. my question is how do i remove all the ticks after i have shaved and applied the tan? there have got to be thousands of them on this kin and it has already compromised the hair in the brisket. any help would be appreciated

I have found that an infant comb in the baby section of walmart works pretty well.

The freezing will kill them. After you tan it , give it a tumble and shake it very well . Most of them will come out.

I get lots and lots of ticks on my deer. I like to comb the coat carefully with the stout ruffer, after it is tanned and dried of course. It's amazing how many ticks come off, even when you can't see them.

Ticks have definately gotten worse over the past few years it seems. I use a slicker brush. It is a dog grooming brush. You can get them at any pet store or farm supply stores. I have also seen them at some Wal-marts in the pet section.

Another problem with ticks is if they get on you.  Lyme desease is very real my sister in law has it and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.   One thing I have found that helps is in the early season when ticks are bad  I will use flea and tick shampoo for puppies  as a shower gel a few times a week.  Don't use the regular stuff it can be harsh on your skin but the puppy stuff doesn't seem to bother me ( and I have pretty sensitive skin)  and since I have started doing that I have had ticks on me but never embedded into my skin.

I go thru the Off spray like you wouldnt believe.. I spray my arms, clothes, hair etc.. then put on rubber gloves.. Then I cape that sucker as fast as I can.. Course by then I have the creep crawlies... kinda like when the school sends home a note about lice in the school LOL...
Ill have to try the puppy shampoo.. Maybe I should wear flea tick collars around my wrists and neck LOL..

I toss it in the freezer overnight, thaw, and flesh, etc.. I hose will knock off alot of the loose ones.. after that its just groom groom and more grooming..
