For the 1st time in a  VERY long time I actually felt nauseated from skinning an animal....(A stinky roadkill possum)...LOL... Tongue

Have any of you ever had that happen? Considering I have dealt with plenty of animals over the years I was kind of shocked I had a reaction at all! The Vicks wasn't even helping much!

Oh well, back I go to get it done!

I was skinning a coyote roadkill a guy brought in and it was pretty bad but when I got to the belly it stunk SO bad.
And when I saw how green it was I called him up and said sorry no can do.
I have a strong stomach but that one was too much.

2cd worse was a road kill fox.. OMG that was soo freaking nasty... We were out of state and It was my first red, and Ill be danged if i wasnt gonna try and mount it LOL.. He turned out fine cept for small slippage on the back of its ears.. Not to shabby for a reeking road kill Smiley

The ONLY time I've ever gotten sick from skinning any kind of animal was the first time I skinned a skunk.  When trapping, I'd usually skin in the field and throw them in the bed of the truck.

Skinned the skunk and cut the dang stink sack!!  I was wearing latex gloves but I swear that stuff ate right thru the gloves!  It was about 27 degrees with an inch of snow on the ground that day.  My trapping/hunting buddy drove up to the sight where we parked and walked in, where I was skinning.... and he said he could smell the skunk a couple miles down the road.  He stayed in his truck and took some pictures, laughed, and then drove off.

Needless to say I got quite sick at my stomach, stripped down to my boxers and carhart and boots and ran around like a chickin with no head, trying to find some fresh air.  It literally took my breath away.

My girlfriend (wife now) was not pleased and my roommate was pis$ed!!

Now my buddy calls me Skunk.  He hasn't called me by my actual name in about 6 years.

Haven't skinned a skunk since.  Won't do them.  Saw the tutorial about skinning a skunk, and saw that picture of that nasty yellow/brown oil..... and got a little qweezy again.  I hate skunks.

I skinned out a deer head that had a puss pocket the size of a soft ball on the inside of it's cheek, from a antler tine it took to the inside of it's mouth. I almost barfed when I popped that thing.

Yep I did the Skunk thing too.  I skinned several of them without incident until the last one I about had my face right up there to get a good look to make sure I would not hit the gland and I'd be damned if I didn't nail that sucker I couldn't see through the tears and it took a week to get that smell out of my nose.  The pussy deer is a whole nother story.

I actully killed a buck a few years ago like that. One huge puss pocket in its cheek and one on the back of his head. His nose was crushed. Kinda felt sorry for him. Both puss pockets poped in the back of my truck! that was SO GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
