Thats what I think too, "they look cheep". Wink You can order good resins from any taxidermy suppliers. I get mine at Michaels arts and crafts.

Actually Marc, the crystals are easy. Just put them on a piece of tinfoil,  and put it in an oven.

I know how to make one. I was just asking for advice on good resins. This one was made with a resin that cost $199.00 shipped to my door. Just wondering if the cheaper stuff(taxidermy catalogs) is good enough?? This is my first.

Like I said I get mine from Michaels arts and crafts. For a gallon it's around $100. I haven't tried any from the taxidermy suppliers. With shipping and insurance costs (witch you have to pay on more than 1 gallon) on top of the actual cost it's cheaper. It works just as good too.

Thanks Redwolf. Your splash looks great. I'll have to get to Michaels and check it out.

You could get plenty of splashes with a gallon to do what you are talking about.
The pic I posted I used a half gallon. The base is 16" wide.  I have never done one like what you are talking about though. Just fish and duck.
If your whole base is going to be water, you should do it on a piece of plexiglass so you wont need so much resin. Just make your splashes, glue them on the plexi, and do one pore on the whole thing.
