Are they the same Huh Can't seem to get a straight answer on this from DNR or TPWL

Never mind They are! just found a Pic and yep they are the same Weird how one snake can have so many ID's - Timber, CaneBreak, Velvet tail   "Jeesh"  can't we just pick one and Use it LOL

Yes Barry, all the same snake. The DNA scientist have classified them all as timbers, in a couple years all rattlesnakes will be classified as timbers. Cheesy The reason they won't give you a straight answer is because they either don't know or they're lying like a bear trap ready to spring if you [expletive deleted] up. Wink

That is why they have scientific names to avoid the confusion of common names. It can still be confusing and then they change some of the scientific names and really make it confussing. Timber rattlesnake is Crotalus horridus .

Timber Rattlesnake Crotalus horridus horridus

Cranebrake Rattlesnake Crotalus horridus atricaudatus

Recently toxic comparisons and mtDNA have determined that they are the one and the same and are now grouped into just one species (Crotalus horridus horridus).

There are a couple of factions within the taxonomist field that promote their own studies and findings for selfish advancement, thus providing a conflict in the results.  Smiley
