I always insure no matter what...Maybe that's more of why I have had no damage?
If they refuse paying out....just ask them..." then why did you accept my insurance fee?"

Marc, but they'll come back ad say that you didn't pack it properly. Not enough peanuts. Box should have been bigger. Etc. Unless they pack it OR you're Cabela's - good luck trying to make a claim. For me the USPS has been stellar. They're cheaper than UPS and they're batting 1000 on about 2 dozen (fish) packages. UPS on the otherhand is 0-1. They damaged ONE stinking musky I sent and it was screwed to a frame on the inside of the box. They HAD to toss it to damage it. Ironically, I had "fragile" marked all over it too - lol!

Here is the deal with UPS / Fed EX .................

They will reject the first claim! every time!
You need to make 2 or 3 to get them to pay for it.  Undecided

Also I have found that putting on a label from your business will help.
since I have started doing that it has reduced the number of dings and dents I was getting on my packages.
Alot of the guys who work these jobs hunt and fish, and couldnt live with themselves knowing they smashed some guys fish. lol
Plus I got a call a few months back from a truck loader for the ups in idaho who saw my label and looked at my website and ordered a trout from me. lol

I must just be one of the lucky few. never had damage. Like Josh says though....mark it as a "mounted fish "and they leave it alone. I put separate stickers on saying this as well as fragile..PLEASE etc. then add insurance too.
Like I said though....Maybe I've just been lucky?

I think it's a regional thing Marc. I've heard good things about UPS outside the Chicago area. But, around here they're pretty bad. I can always tell which courier a supply company has used by how banged up my box is...
