Wrapping a bird body
«
on:
November 04, 2008, 08:18:03 AM »
I wrap 90% of my bird body's and I've had people PM me asking me how I do it, so I figured I might as well just do this thread.
I'm sure some would do it different than me, but I'll explain how I do mine.I hope it helps.
First I take the karkus of the bird and lay it out on paper or cardboard

Now I just make the "back bone". Wrap it as tight as you can so the wires for the legs and wings will be strong enough to hold them in place. I used black thread so you can see what is being wrapped, but you can use floss if you wanted to.

You don't want it exact, you want it a little small. When you are close wrap some cotton pillow filler around it and get it as close as you can.

Now using the marks you used for the leg and wing positions mark them on your wrapped body.

With the tracing you took you can get a good neck measurement and position.
This method can be used on all sized birds. I hope this helps.
Here is a pic of the bird right after I mounted it.
And if anyone else wants to add their way of doing it please do. We might as well give a few different options, Heck you might even teach me a better way.
