Even thou I'm not much a fish taxidermist, I still do them and this was an interesting piece..This sailfish was caught in 1949 somewhere around Panama Canal. It was a skin mount and came to me with no tail, spear gone, lower jaw gone, pectoral fin gone..It was green and a mess but the customer wanted to surprise his grandfather (who caught it) with it last christmas...It was bad as bad can get but it turned out nice and has a good story behind it.....Thanks to all you fish guys, your awesome....

My first week in fish picture is an old grayling mount. It's my first ever grayling and it was a skin mount.

DaveB....great job on restoring that sailfish. sounds like it was a real mess. In my mind, the story behind that fish is the "essence" of why I do what I do. Memories like that are special.....

Here is a Largemouth Bass Skin mount.  This is the 5th Bass I have skin mounted and probably the 3rd paint job I've done.  I know that the Spot patern on the side of the fish is off and should originate from the Ear of the gill cover and that the lines are off on the cheek.

Hi guys,
First off, to remind everyone- I am not a taxidermist.  I am graduate student studying fish biology who reads about fish taxidermy and other art forms to keep from going crazy in the lab.  I look forward to Fridays and am always inspired by all of you.

I am posting something that I created myself (just for fun) from bare materials (clay, paper, hot glue, acrylic paints, and other craft things).   I do recall that this thread was dedicated to anything fish-like in art form and I remember seeing wood carvings on here.  So, hopefully, this amateur 'artwork' of mine is welcome.

Well, this is no where near the professional grade artwork you guys produce on a regular basis, but I figured a peasant like me could stand among giants today with this little peice.

The body work is made from clay.  Hot glue attached the paper fins, and I used plastic toothpicks for some of the spines.

This will become a gift for my research advisor.
