Ok, this is not the usual finishing question.  I created a ped mount bear from a shoulder form, and I planned on flocking the back when it was done.  After I poured the foam and formed the back like I wanted, the foam really showed alot of porosity holes and just crappy finish on the foam.  Now I am ready to finish it off and would like to make the foam ready to use.

Does anyone have any ideas for putting something on the back to help smooth this out for finishing?

I think I saw in a taxi today or breakthrough, about someone putting thinned down bondo on the back.  Probably you could do that then sand the bondo so your flocking sticks to it.

Maybe I could try the fleckstone first, and if that doesn't look good I could then add the bondo after it!  Thanks.

What is the best way to "thin down" bondo?

thin bondo w/ fiberglass resin. You can use it straight on the back of your ped though, I do.

Get some thick laytex paint in the color of the flocking you are going to use paint it on real thick and sprinkle your flocking onto it.  once it dries completly blow off the excess flock.

Thanks Harley

I understand how to do all of that, it's just what the foam looks like.  Just painting isn't going to cut it.  There are large air pockets, etc in it.

Ahh I thought you were talking about small pourous holes that would be small enough for the laytex to fill  sorry I miss read your question.  I would just use bondo to fill the bigger holes and then coat it with the laytex paint .    Can you take a pic so we can see what you are dealing with?

cover with bondo easiest way. I then cover with leather. if I make wall ped and it has the holes like you are talking about I use cotton quilt pad under my leather to take out those gaps ( in the event i dont bondo first)

I use plaster, it's cheap and easy to smooth out. You will need to let it dry out over night before painting or covering with leather.
