This is an unusual situation.  Last Feb. while shed hunting I ran across a dead buck.  Since it was a pretty nice buck, I elected to have it mounted.  My local taxidermist provided a cape (tanned).  I just got the mount back and realized that I had seen this buck before.  Looking through old game cam pics, I matched this deer to a piebald buck that was last caught on camera around Christmas of last year.

Here's a pic of the current mount:

Here's a pic of the original deer:

What I would like to do is to somehow dye the cape in the correct places to match the original deer.  Is this possible? And what methods can I use.  Someone I know mentioned the possibility of human hair coloring but my taxidermist didn't think this would work.  Any ideas?

That's a shame his hide went to waste. Beautiful deer.
As for your question, dyes can be harsh on deer hair and will most likely damage it. It is also difficult to get a clean white. You usually end up with an off colored orange uness you do several applications, and then damage is even more of a risk. Just an idea but could you airbrush the markings with paint? I'm not sure how convincing you can get them to look. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

Nina, airbrushing is a possibility and one that my taxidermist recommended.  Thanks for the link, huntingislife, I am very interested in the McKenzie hair dyes. It does sound exactly what I need. Has anyone ever used these products?
