Well I was into racing pigeons but gave that up because of the coopers hawks ...seems the young of the year are learning to hunt same time training/racing of young of the year pigeons . awfully disheartening to spend several months and countless gallons of gas /miles traing your race team only to have a bird return from a 300 mile race in good time and have a cooper hawk swoop down and nail him before he can clock in.....in 6-8 years I had over 15 coopers hawks 1 red-tail and a barred owl removed from my lofts by local falconers.......swithed to rollers and that was worse yet.they are still around killing all the doves, cardinals, robins they can but they have no enemies themselves except the great horned owls.....have found several remains under owl roost/feeding trees.

Very VERY nice shots. i enjoy watching the ospreys near my home swoop down into the water and pull speckled trout from the shallow water.

Yep, a prime example of over protection of a species.  Coopers hawks and great horned owls are the only ones that terrorize my quails.

Raptors are what they are and do what they do. You can hardly blaim a raptor for killing other birds, they have to to survive. if you want to keep your pet birds save just keep them in a good closed pen, no problems then.

Around here its just not a good idea to let your pigeons fly during the cold months. We are totally inundated in hawks this time of year.
By spring they all fly back to Canada, where they belong!

If a hawk sneaked in my bird pen he would never get out to return again! When they get that addicted too your livestock it's time for the alternative. Grin

I truly believe that hawks can learn from the bad experiences of others.  Because after losing over 100 chickens in one summer to those dam coopers we had us a little training session around here Wink  That was ten years ago and they simply don't bother me any more, even though they are all around.   Smart birds Grin
