Are the blue & gold macaws a CITES bird, are they legal to sell ?
I have one that seems to be abandoned, wondering if I could sell it.

The birds must come from a captive breeder. and should have an endless band, i.e. a ring around the leg with the breeders number on it.  I have a friend that breeds Amazons and she hauls them to Canada from the US for sale.

The band is placed on the leg when the bird is young and is to remain there to prove it was captive bred. Even if mounted!

Glasseye, Where are you located?

Macaws are Cities listed. Which if you are in the US and selling the bird in the US there is no restriction. (unless there is a crazy state law that would prohibit it)

Cities will only come into Play if you intend to import or export the bird in or out of the US.

The "Wild Bird Conserveration Act" prohibits import or export of all Live Cities listed parrots for commercial purposes. The "WBPA" does not prohibit "dead specimens" from import or export. But you would have to apply for a Cities permit to do so which can be troublesome.

Best of luck, Mike

Is it a band like this one. It's an endless band.

I live in CA
It's a macaw that I did for a customer and I doubt he'll ever pick it up.

I would look up state laws  as your in the clear as far as federal concerns with that bird,  unless exportng out of the country..
