If anyone can please help me I would appreciate it.
My name is Karen, I had a wonderful pet desert tortoise for many years and sadly, he passed away. I would love to keep his beautiful shell in my garden.
I have found bits and pieces of info, on how to clean him out and preserve his shell, but not enough info to just do it.  I have a big tub and a friend with access to super worms.
Could someone please give me some instruction on what to do, how long it takes. Pretty much a-z. Or just point me in the right direction. I really appreciate all the help in advance

Karen
Sorry about your tortoise. Sad

I would check this section of the forum here
http://www.taxidermy.net/forum/index.php/board,17.0.html

this may be more up their ally.

I Do know the scales or scutes on the shell will lift from the actual bone shell over time, so outside may not be the best option.
Perhaps a mold of his shell and a fake bronze casting would look cool. and weather better.
just an Idea.

I would try a mold and a casting for the backyard and the shell for the shelf.

Here is a tutorial I did on molding rocks.

Same basic principal
as for the casting if you have a hobby lobby near you or similar store they sell some really nice faux bronze or patina kits.
you can do that over the casting.
