No, I don`t see were it would be needed. You could cut a steak with a butter knife but if a sharp knife cuts it better and faster why use the butter knife?

I've used a blank blade for fleshing - and it does do a good job! In fact, I know one person that even sometimes dresses the flat of the blade, where normally the edge would be, in order to keep a good 90 degree edge. Using a dulled or sharp edged blade for fleshing will also work - but until you build up experience using the Shaving Machine - why not simply use the blank! I can change from my blade to the blank on my Eager Beaver in less than 50 seconds. It's an easy change-over!

I do
might take me 30 seconds longer than on a beaver with my pro
it wont yank the skin into the machine with a fresh hide like a blade will
but id still go in the proper direction
