Hi all.

Well I think Ill jump in and get it started again this week.
Rumor has it that Rick is without the internet.
And nothing is worse then a busted google machine lol (I am sure he is enjoying his quiet, but I dont envy having his inbox  Shocked)

It was a great week last week, and I cant believe we are ready to start again.
Some beautiful fish posted by some great people.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Rick Laurienti.  Cry
I never met him, but know of his work. In fact I had a large blown up picture of that rainbow over my work desk for years, he was an amazing artist and from what Ive heard a great man.
He will be missed.

I think I will post his rainbow as the starter for this week.

What a reminder of how precious and fast life moves, keep that in mind over the next few days.
I know we all have TONS of work to do right now, but lets not loose sight of the important stuff.

So with that my wife and I decided to make our own christmas cards this year.
I got this christmas and decided to bust out the watercolors. hehe

Merry Christmas and a peaceful holiday to all of you!!
From Josh & Becky Knuth

Now lets see some FISH!!!

Hello from Germany,
my post for this week is a customers german brown trout replica. I only had a photo from the fish that was released after the picture. I didn´t have a fitting mold for it and shipping a blank from the states is not cheap. So I developed a technique for these cases: Head and fins are molded. The body was carved out of foam and then covered with fiberglass and resin. When the resin has almost set, I press in the scale structure with a scaler-tool. Then the common sculpting is done with apoxie. First time I used liquid scales on a brown. I love that stuff. I also used it to paint the eyes.

Everybody have a nice christmas time and a good new year 2009.

Oliver

A whole bunch of great looking work over these last few weeks!  And thanks, Josh, for stepping in while Rick has been hindered.  Wink

Aaron, you guys consistently put out solid work that always captures the essence of the species - well done.

Doug, besides your work being exquisitely detailed, it seems like every one of your fish mounts tells a unique story - and that is a tough thing to do that you capture so well.

Oliver, that is a neat way to make a fish without an actual fish mold, great job on pulling it off.  Joe, that looks like a very realistic Laker!

I am very sorry to hear about Rick Laurienti passing.  His work was a great inspiration to me because his work looked so darn "fishy".  His Brown Trout on the Polytranspar poster that was put out in the 80's is still one of my favorite fish mounts of all time.  I was thrilled to meet him at the 1988 World Show and he was very pleasant to talk to.  He had a Cutthroat there that was damaged in transit so he had to do a bunch of repairs in the hotel room.  Despite the imperfections from the last minute repairs, it still looked superb.
