Can someone help me.  I am trying to smoke deer bones (leg) for dog chews.  I have already boiled and removed the hair. Now i want to smoke them and put some flavoring in them. How can I do that?  How long do I need to smoke them etc.  I would be very grateful for any information. Thank you.

I have done something similar with deer and elk leg bones. All I did was to just skin them though. I then stacked them in a large covered roaster and slow roasted them in the oven for about 6 hours at 250 degrees. Te bones browned well and most of the grease ended up in the bottom of the pan. The remaining meat and tendons dried out nicely.

You could also stick them in a real smoker like you use for fish or meats. One that is storebought or home made. Be aware that, the deer bones especially, will shatter and splinter if given to a big dog. If the dog can snap the bones in half, do not give them to him.
