Weird fox
«
on:

My dad caught a red fox this morning that has a little extra white on it's hind paws where the fur is usually dark. Is this common? We were thinking of selling it on here, but if it's rare, I might just mount up the fox for my dad.

foxes can have color variations, rare i would say not, if you think it is real special i would mount him up for remeberance of a great trapping experience. i caught a real nice red this morning with a nice snowball tail, they are in there full prime now & really nice. good trapping to you

For what its worth, white tipped tails and also white toes and/or foot markings are common in my neck of the woods. I agree with trapperr, if its special to YOU, thats a good enough reason! Trapperr, I love the coyote pic in your posts, its a nice pose. Isnt it nice to have the old dogs that just lay there and wait for ya?

It's also possible it is either an escapee from a fur farm or the descendant of one. One of the effects of selecting for docility and heavily inbreeding for fur characteristics is more than the usual amount of white. See the Russian study on breeding silver foxes for docility and the book "Beautiful Fur Animals - Their Color Genetics" by Scientifur.

I think they are breeding with the local beagles.
Are you interested in it, Nina? Or anyone else for that matter? I'm not going to mount it and it is still in good shape with no freezer burn. As you can see it is a beautiful cherry red color, fully prime fox with a nice tail. It does have one .22 solid point bullet hole in its hind leg. The bullet passed right through him and hit the leg just above the foot.
If there are any interested parties out there pm me and we can work out a price.
