Dennis, what brand of carpet glue would you recommend using for taxidermy purposes?
Any kind you choose. LOL
I actually use McKenzie past but I do sort of what bill was saying, I add allot of dextrin and water and double the amount of paste. I have considered MP's mix to, seems like folks that use it really like it.

I have found the cheaper clay based adhesives become hard and brittle with no flex at all. I personally have used them and they don't compare to a good premium adhesive.

I don't know about using carpet glue on mounts, but I am laying carpet in the office and have a couple buckets of hide paste laying around. Could I use the hide paste on the carpet?

Liquid Nails Cove Base is a darn good hide glue...it is not cheap. My son was in the floor business a few years back. I used his leftover cove base. Another was Marpei (I think) cove base adhesive.

joey,
It is called mapei, I also layed floors for 25 years and the glue is now different these days.
the glues that are out now will work if you use a good glue but I would add dextrin to it to make it stiffer and stickier.
Lino glue will work also as it is the same as carpet glue but not as thick so you need to thicken it up.
I have gone back and ripped up carpet that I have installed in commercial areas 10-15 years later and you cant hardly
get the carpet off the floor.
But like DS says you have to use a premium adhesive to get those results.

As a flooring installer as well...if you want a adhesive that sticks like nothing you have ever seen..try using the adhesive used for installing dura-ceramic..but you better work fast because once it starts to get tacky..i dont care who u are you will not move it

i know this is a really old thread but, carpet is constantly being walked on, therefore the glue may breakdown.. mounts stay stationary so the glue wont be disrupted much

I just installed some dura-ceramic. The glue is too much like contact cement and really doesn't allow the time necessary for taxidermy work....plus it's VERY EXPENSIVE! It DOES STICK, just a bit too fast.

i use vinyl wall adhesive for fish...it stays sort of flexible and sticks great...i just paint it over the carved form for hard scaled fish or paint latex white paint, dry, then coat it with the vinyl for trout and soft skinned fish....wouldn't trust it with large game heads....but smaller mammals and heads it works..plus drys slow, so you can adjust them

LOL. You guys. You see forgetting what was used as hide paste for a hundred years. DEXTRINE!!! S hide paste that holds the hide in place need only hold it until the skin dries. Tell be about the old carpet. You don't pull it off because the glue has crystallized. You pull it up because the carpet is trashed.

I started a post just to spark some interests and comparisons about whats your favorite hide pastes because most will do, but i wanted to see who used what and why,but Mr.T was the only one that commented. This post seems to be pretty close to the same with more interests, but mostly about layin carpet. My comment is probably as dumb as my post about hide pastes but you read it.
