Here's a picture of the whole bird, I had to switch posts. I also took the cards and pins out for the pic., lots of grooming still, the hood is still not set quite yet, the whole bird is still a bit wet, but you get the idea.    SteveP it's a totally carved body from an old deer form I cut up. I'd rather carve then wrap anyday, just me.   production manikins work great with a little modifying also.

I hope this tutorial helps, It shows there's always more than one way to get desired results. You can also set the wings in a similar way, works great!! Give it a try!!  Perry

Thanks Perry. Very nice, natural looking pose. I'm glad you mentioned anchoring the wings with your method. I would think that would work great, especially on tube skinned birds. I don't like to push the wire all the way out the end of the wings, so it's a wrestling match to get the wires run through a body. Also, I think a cordless skilsaw would cut a nice wire slot in a hurry.

Sorry, my flash wasn,t working but the bird did very well at the South Dakota Show. I almost didn't take this bird because I had others I put together. I threw it in at the last minute, glad I did!!!!     Now he's retired...

what is that...a ufo pheasant they call them up here....have done a similar method only with bondo....I dont like the way hot glue melts the form and hate to wait for it to set up...if you make the loop at a right angle to the hip bone and drill hole straight into form it is easy to modify position.

I started out using bondo with this method but didn't like the fumes or the mixing, and the reason I like the hot glue is the fact that it Does melt into the foam some making for a stronger bond once cooled. Like I said, the cooling time is the only drawback, still WAY faster than bondo,  but I can always find something to do while that happens. This is just one of many methods to try. Some will like it, some won't, just like anything else, LOL.  The more I use this way, the more I like it is all I can say. I just mounted a peacock with this method, took a bit of hot glue but the bird is solid, worked great!!  I hate to ask what a ufo pheasant is....
