It's an asbestos substitute that's used as a bedding material for molding. Van Dykes, McKenzie, WASCO should all have it. It goes by different names sometimes, Saf-fiber I think is one.

High fiber and safe fiber are two different products with high fiber being the better of the two by a huge margin. WASCO sells it, not sure about anyone else.

There is another source but I am not sure if it is the same.

Is their anything else one could use in a bind? We dont have a address until next week and I have a few nice rainbows, char, crappies and a fat perch in the freezer I would like to try and mold/cast.. Polymer guy sent me some samples but I have yet had the chance to use them.. or am I better of waiting a few weeks and ordering the high fiber to use as bedding material?

Thanks guys

High fiber definetly works the best. In a pinch you could use sand. If you can I would wait and use the fibre. What are you molding the fish out of bondo or silicone?

I am going to use the bondo method. Can i mix some borax with paper mache, so it doesn't set up as fast and set the fish down in the mache?

The borax might have an effect on the side that it lays in. If you dont have high fiber I have used with decent success a playdough mix.

Flour, oil , water , and salt Mixed and needed to a playdough consistancy.

A 50lb bag will do a good sized fish. 25- 30" range
In a pinch you can build a box filled with sand to get your basic shape, then a piece of plastic then Highfibe on top of that.

It is completely reusable. You will want to keep it wet and will need to add water every now and then.
I put a bit of bleach in the water to cut out anysmell or mold.

I did a tutorial on molding a while back.

you may need to comb back a page or so in the blog for the whole thing.
this my help you get it figured out.
