Stuff a salamander
«

Hi . I found a dead salamander today and i want to stuff it. I just ran out of snake tan and I'm wondering what my alternatives are. I just don't feel like i need a whole new kit for amphibian tanning since i rarely do it. Would an overnight bath in denatured alcohol and or borax do the trick? Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
Sam.

Sam,
if you read through the archived posts, there is a section that relates to a form of freeze drying critters such as these, where you end up soaking them for a period in one of the solutions, then placing them in the freezer for a set perio and the result is akin to a freeze dried method. I have not tried this, but it kinda makes sense when you read through the post.
Like I said, I have not tried it, but this seems to make some sense....
as they are amphibians, I would look through the breakthrough reptile and amphib manual, as they have several methods for the mounting of these little guys. I have had little time of lateto dedicate to working on my projects as my house has recently flooded due to TS Eduardo and am pending deployment in the next few months (I jsut got back three months ago).
Good luck to you on this and post some pics when you attack this project
