I am pleased, but I can see room for improvement in the paint, specifically the tips.

This was a practice antler and the resin coloring came out purple. no joke ... it was purple. So, I had to repaint the entire antler.

The photos really bring out inconsistancies in color, so, in "real life" it does not look this blotchy and uneven.

The camera is cruel. Even so, I consider it a success, especially since it was the first antler I have reproduced.

I have no problem with anyone criticizing it, or any suggestions on paints.

You could tell me that was real and I'd believe it.

That's kind, thanks.  I do think the mold turned out very well.

I see now that it is too dark and too red. I took out some old sheds and made a comparison.

When compared to others, you can see the color is not right.

Solution? Keep it away from other sheds!

I will do it different next time.

Looks great to me also.  As for color , I notice that my deer racks are all different colored , from whitish ( from rubbing ) to dark brown ( swamp deer ) . Rick

I would stay away from coloring the resin. Try artist tube oil paints or acrylic but dont try to mix them. Thin with the appropriate thinner paint & wipe off. You will soon learn how to blend them by doing it.

Thanks guys.

Bill, I agree. Of course, I tried numerous tinting options, none of them turned out to be anything but completely un-natural. After all, when was the last time you saw a deer with lime green antlers? Or purple antlers? I had to paint those white and start from there.

So, I will just make them all white.

I have found that if I use some black, very sparingly, I can wipe it on and wipe it off quickly, it gives it a very realistic "start". From there, I can add the browns.

I have been using acrylic from the hobby store. I bought one tube of black and one of burnt umber. So, considering it was just an experiment, I think it worked out ok.

I need some yellow and a brown without so much red in it.

Thanks everyone for your help.
