a simple way to get a good solid anhor wire in a hand wrapped bird body for a fying or swimming mount is to wrap it right into place.Start with proper size wire (this is a 12 ga. for woodduck),and bend into a figure "8" keeping loops cinched tight.wrap a small amount of excelsior onto wire wrapping around loops width and length wise as well .Go around anchor wire every other wrap and reverse directions. When "core" is nice and tight proceed to add and shape the rest of body to proper size according to your carcass tracings, again wrapping around wire every few wraps both lengthwise and around.when completed tie off string and clip ends.If you decide later on a standing mount simply clip off wire. When mounting bend wire towards head and insert through your pre-determined hole at the same time as you insert neck into skin.Heres a good way to keep your wrapping string clean and tangle free....put spool into a coffee can.
