Boar Skull

Finished this ugly sucker this week. I have been degreasing him in Dawn and Ammonia with bucket heater since February. I have done several boars with this one being the biggest so far. Until I started cleaning skulls I never realized how far into the lower jaw that tusks goes!

They are tough but I like doing them. Neat creatures.
A lot of degreasing though. I have had good luck degreasing for a while then soaking in used BO, and then going back to degreasing. Breaks down the grease.
Nice job!

Notice the small hole in the lower jaw. That is where the tusks ends and "fits" against the outside of the jaw. You guys think it was the tusks that wore the jaw line thin causing the hole? Only explanation that I could come up with.

Looking nice, I have five going now. I agree with the switching back and forth, it seems to help.

I am doing my first boar right now and am very new at this. What is BO? Also, do you remove the tusks before soaking? I did on the bottom, but not the top ones. I would love to see my boar come out this white. Any info would help!

bghtr26 you need to sit down and and search the forum archives a few hours or you will definitely catch hell for asking some stuff. Search "bo" and "degreasing boar" or "Boar Skulls" and you will find out more than you can absorb in several days. Good luck!

I remove the tusk and teeth that are loosened from the maceration process. The tusk are hollow on the end that goes into the jaw so you have to clean the meat and tissue out.
For whiteness.......DEGREASE, DEGREASE, DEGREASE!

I got his boar in last week and have him macerating. I managed to take a snapshot of him before skinning.

I'm working on a domesticated hog in addition to a number of others. I haven't seen grease like this pig (10 months old at slaughter) on anything else.
The before shots...and I haven't taken any after shots yet. But she's been in the degreaser since March.
