I'm considering getting one, since I'm farsighted, and have trouble with the really close up work.
If you have one, did you get the light that goes with it?
and what lens power did you end up purchasing?

Bobbi,I can't remember the lense diopter numbers and I actually have 3 different ones. You probably want the lowest power number or the one next to it.You have to remember,as you get into the higher power numbers, the distance to your subject gets more critical. The area that is in focus gets smaller and smaller as you get into the higher powers and you have to be closer to your subject.

Often when I work on really detailed stuff,I just put the optivisor on over my reading glasses. That works really well and I can just flip the lenses up when not needed and use reading glasses only or flip the optivosor down as needed. You will wonder how you got along without one.

I used to use one on competition stuff even when my closeup vision was exceptional.I figured if it looked good under magnification,it would pass the inspection of the judges.

OK,I stopped to check mine out.I have a 3,4 and 10.The 3 and 4 are pretty useful. You have to get within 3 or 4 inches with the 10 and depth of field is very narrow. It will depend a lot on your eyes and you may just have to get one so you will know.I would bet the 3 or 4 would work well and you could use reading glasses under,to get closer.

I use the 3 or 4 with reading glasses when I clean paint off glass eyes etc to make sure I get every speck, also fine, detailed sculpting of texture on lips etc..

I haven't tried the light but maybe I should. That sounds possibly worthwhile.

The only supplier that I can find that carries them is McKenzie. But they don't offer a light.
There are also several other companies online, but I like ordering from the taxidermy suppliers.

Bobbi...I use mine all day long.  I don't think you need the light.  Mine is a 5X.  I purchased it from Dixieland Supply a few years back.  They are the best thing for finish work and threading needles you'll ever purchase.  Enjoyed visiting with you at the show.  Jimmy Carter and I visited a good bit with Linda while you were in the elk seminar...we had lots of laughs!

Bobbi Research Had them at the IL show and they are in their catalogue as well.   They had 3 or 4 different magnifications available.   I could see great through some and not so great through others  I would call around to some of the people fairly close by in your state's assoc. and see if you can look through theirs or check them out at a show  to figure out what magnification you like best.  I almost bought a pair at the show but the only pair I had left I couldn't see too well out of and the guy that bought the last pair of the ones that were only one step lower in magnification  let me look through his and I could see great with them.   I haven't checked them out but I think harbor freight carries them as well.

Yeah Joey, Linda had a good time chatting with you fellas!
I'll check around and see what I can find, and decide from there.
I normally wear bifocals, so should I take that into consideration?

Here is a site to get what you you want besides the other suppliers . I have one with lite and it works well especially for the fine type work. This company is excellent in dealing with as well, good luck, John.

Thanks for that link Tmbrwlf52...I may look into that Quaser lighting system  after reading about it...I had never thought about lighting on the optivisor...they help me so much without it, I just can't imagine better!
