I think I have a good name and logo for my shop I will be opening. Can anyone tell me where to look and find out if the name/logo is currently being used?
Thanks, Mark

Google it to start.  Without registering it as a federal type copy right/trademark  it doesn't matter if its unique or not... anyone can have the same name

Most states, if you apply for a license or form an llc will tell you if the name is taken. Alot of times they ask for a 2nd choice. Also check insurance, permits and all the legal crap. Even garbage pick up may change. Best of luck.

In NY when you apply for a DBA cert. they will tell you if the name is taken & you have to have a second choice. Federal law says you have to have a DBA to open a bank account in the business name so the samr rule should apply regardless of the state you are in.

In Illinois we have to register our proposed Bus Name with the county as well. A heads up if you develop a web site at some point I would register it under .com.biz.net etc ( I use Go daddy) to help protect the site integrity and avoid rip offs. If you look in the NTA directory you will find several very similar Bus names...Fur fins and Feathers and various derivatives  of common bus names.
