early bird gets the worm, late mouse gets cheese

« on: May 14, 2009, 07:17:13 PM »

I have a degreasing tub with heating element and the tub has a lid on it, I have had 3 deer in there and 2 of them the horns have turned green around the top. Has anyone else had this happen? I tried to wash them with dawn and hot water but had no luck. What could be causing this and what could i do to keep it from happen again? I think if i left the lid off it would help cause the water that rises is soaking into the horns but that would also waste water and power? Any ideas???

Are the horns dry or wet?  To me it sounds like there is moisture in the tines from condensation.  When they dry, it should go away.

Is your heating element copper? Or copper in part? Copper will also turn things green.

Search for antlers and latex   You can also completely submerge the antlers in a larger container. What is on there should scrub off with good soap and a stiff brush when it is dry.

I tried to scrub them with hot soap and water and a hard brush, but that didn't help. And one of the deer is mine so i took some sandpaper and sanded on them and that didn't even help??? My element isn't copper i guess it is stainless. I am going to try sitting them out in the sun for a few days and see if that helps.

Try soaking them in some vinegar.
