I was reading the posts about the pus and It reminded me of the one and only time I almost threw up. Has any of you ever actually gotten that sick while working/ skinning something out. Tell us about it.

Everytime I'm around a yote! I don't have to be the one skinning it. It's like I'm mixing concrete in my mouth!

Never, Im pretty careful about what I take. If it stinks bad, sorry. But my brother killed a deer and wanted the skull cleaned. I told him to freeze till I could get it. About 10 or 15 days later he told me he had to put it outside because it stunk so bad in his garage floor then it was outside in 70 degrees for a couple more days. I didnt get sick but it was bad and it was my brother so I did it anyway.

Only when my kids puke....other stuff doesn't really bother me too much....like deer brains, etc...which I think are kind of cool!

Now to the wonderful person who recently PM'd me...I do wear rubber gloves when whisking the brains out of a deer's noggin with my finger!!!!!!!  I don't use a straw or anything slurpily disgustulating as that! Holy pink mac 'n cheese, Batman!!!! Smiley

Fun topic, though!

Dont want people to think I'm wierd, I recently was skinning a coyote and this one was real bad. I had a cold and started coughing and between the smell of the dog and and the sight of the guts as I accidentally poked the stomach  I lost it a little. Just wanted to be sure I'm not alone!

I have wanted to puke a few times skinning roadkill. (that was a few years back when I just started taxidermy and practiced skinning anything I could pick up)

one time when i was trying to bust the "buttons" off a button-buck skull with a hammer, the skull busted and made the brains shoot out at me! it was everywhere! in my hair, near my mouth, and all over my clothes. it was even worse because the head was a few days old so the smell was just putrid!

and this is a little off topic but anyways. about a month ago my dad had me skin a few coons down the barn and by the time i was starting to skin the last one, i got light-headed, nauseated, and i just didn't feel right. so i had to walk away and rest a few minutes. well then the weirdest thing happened . i went blind (just blacked out) and sat down on the ground for a few moments before i regained my vision. it was so scary. all i saw was jet black for at least a minute. i was just fine after. i have no idea as to whether or not the coon had anything to do with it.

I can't say that i have ever been sick from skinning something, even the deer that i could not find a few weeks ago and found the next morning. It was nice and cold that evening and the deer did not spoil but that green juice was sure kickin bad.The only thing that did make me puke from was about 3 weeks after hurricane Katrina i returned back to my house and started to clean up after taking on 6 feet of water. The fridge was laying on it's back and  after almost busting my guts out trying to upright it all the water that was in it mixed with all the food rushed out and i lost my cookie's right then but on a lighter note it did make me stop and think about standing the upright freezer up that had 30 pounds of crab meat in it let's just say lots of duct tape around the doors to seal all the good smells in.

Once, when I was a kid, I was cleaning a fox skull to make a neck mount form...the meat was putrid and I was scraping away and BAM....man I shudder now to think about it!!!  I threw up and tossed the skull...bought a form from Elwood Supply made of plaster.

Wow, Nina!  Did you tell your Dad and get that checked out?  That sounded scary!   Shocked

I would tell a story to you all about an experience during a draw hunt in Spavinaw WMA, but it would be PG-13 and probably too gross for this forum.

Shoot, now I'll probably have to share it!  (but probably won't)  LOL!

...then there was the time I stepped on a dead coyote and once back in the Deer Hearse, my truck, once I closed the door...YUCK!  Talk about a nauseating and overwhelmingly wicked dead dog smell!  Jumped out of the truck nearly hurlin' my afternoon beef n' mac and discovered a rancid rib bone impaled in my hunting boot....

I get queezy when I smell burning bone.  I had a client give me a really rotten deer head for a euro mount a few weeks ago.  He told me he had it in the freezer for 2 weeks as he was putting it in the back of my truck.  I got a wiff of it and gagged.  He said "I thought my freezer was plugged in".  NOT!!!  I was driving 85 miles an hour down I10 and I still smelled it.  That afternoon my 3 year old nephew got in the back of my truck and was telling me how cute these 'baby white worms' were in the bed of my truck.  MAGGOTS

I seem to start gaggin every time I clean a rabbit. Don't know why or what it is because I've certainly been into alot worse smells. But them rabbits really get me for some reason.
