Are the ticks bad in your area? You know you have to be in the woods getting foodplots ready, working on stands, but when you have to fear ticks, its bad. It seems they are worse this than usual. If they hurt the deer as bad as they do me, we are doing the deer a favor in shooting them.

Use "Deep Woods Off", and hope for the best.  Ticks are everywhere...we live in the woods in the deep south...they are active year round here.

Get some permethrin, availible @ Cabelas and other stores.  You spray it only on your cloths, not on skin.  It kills ticks when they get on you.  It is not like other spray that repell them.  I also lasts a few washings.   Great suff.

I just returned from a Lyme confrence, and they also recomend sprays with Permethrin for killing ticks, and mosquitos.

Last season seemed to be bad, had alot of wts come in covered with them. A good tip if you want to continue to cape them and not stick them in the freezer for awhile is to go to your hardware store and get some bug stop. I spray the deer and my table with it and it kills them dead.

We have a state park not 5 miles from us called Green Lakes state park, it's loaded with deer and ticks.. It's ground zero for the highest percentage of ticks infected with Lyme disease. 10-15 years ago, ticks were almost unheard of around here, now they're crawling up our ass....

For a CHEAPER source of permethrin, go to WalMart.  DON'T go to the sporting goods and buy that small aerosol can of REPEL.  Go to the GARDEN SECTION and find "Eliminator".  It's a pump bottle of permethrin designed for ticks and fleas IN DOG HOUSES.  It's twice as strong as the type they sell hunters.  You can dilute it 50% with water if you like.

In my shop, I have a cheap blue tarp down for deer "deposits".  I spray it with Eliminator as soon as I get it down. When a fresh hide comes in, it goes on the tarp and I mist the animal with it as well.  Ticks, fleas, lice, mites, and even chiggers die on contact.  Just use rubber gloves as it can be absorbed through the skin.  I also spray down my hunting clothes and bug suits.  Let them dry and the treatment will be effective for up to 2 weeks and endure 2 to 3 wash cycles.

Bobbi, you need a couple of ThermoCells. They sell a picnic style one for large areas.
