"30 Below Zero and Sunny"

Work-In-Progress
30x40 inches
Acrylic on Canvas

My main objective in this painting is to capture that blue "glow" in the shaded areas. Other than that, I just like mountains.

I still have a lot of detail work and still have to finish the background mountains.

WOW Great!
Is 30 x 40 much harder to work on than 12 x 16?

It's easier to paint on a larger canvas in my experience. It's obviously more time consuming, but you can get more details in a larger surface.

Thanks! Smiley

You've captured that shadow blue very well.  When looking a real snow scene I look for those bluish shadows and sure enogh--there they are.  Very nice and it does look cold!

I've only been to the mountains once, but from what I remember of them it looks awesome. Keep up the great work.

check out this link, he's done exactly as you with the snow type scenes...you may have to watch for a few minutes, but his work is well worth it.

I myself haven't tried painting snow yet, but I like your work.

There's nothing more impressive to me than artists that can capture believable light and shadow from different times in the day.

Yeah, he's done some nice paintings!

My favorites are Thomas Moran, Bev Doolittle and Helmut Ditsch. Smiley
