If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

this fascinates me for some reason, i just never thought such big birds would have such large families... dunno why.

how sweet though, both parents and all the young right there.  Smiley  "family portrait kiddies!  wait no, camera is THAT way... KIIIIDS!"

lol.

I think ostriches are communal nesters with one male and a dominant female along with other females that lay eggs in the same nest.  They may have over twenty eggs in the nest.  Large broods result.

Can you believe the absolutely primative ... Prehistoric structure of an Ostrich wing?

That is sweet.  Was it defensive or a "hand" to grab things?

Don't know if anyone could definitively answer that.  But those illustrations are from the present day Ostrich!  And from seeing how they threat display, I'm sure they can be used for defense when those big birds strike forward with their wings, besides kicking with those powerful feet! Shocked

i think i saw a Nature program where two males were not only neck-wrestling but also beating each other with their wings?  tried to find it on youtube but i just see the neck wrestling there.  guess it's just like how some deer have canines, leftover from the old ages but not really used now a days.  Smiley
