Francois, thanks for the compliment. I have mounted a lot of parrots, but nothing compared to what you have.
I was really bothered by the lack of good parrot eyes so I finally got desperate and figured out how to paint my own.
I start with acrylic bird eyes of the right size, strip them with lacquer thinner, hand paint the pupil and then airbrush the rest. The bare skin around the eyes and the eyelids are entirely replaced with sculpting epoxy.
The best parrot eyes I have done so far are on a very common type of conure. It was good practice in case I ever get the chance to work on something really special.

None of the "skin" around her eyes is real. It's all epoxy. (Sorry for the repeat - I know I have posted this photo before.)

Awesome gallery Nancy Smiley Those eyes you did on that red-masked conure are gorgeous. very lifelike. I never would have guessed you used epoxy for the skin around the eyes!

This is a very cool thread - and a very cool idea - Francois your parrot collection is stunning - nancy is extremely gifted and I have always enjoyed seeing her magic - those eye's are amazing.  All my REALLY cool stuff is still in the freezer  ;o)  anything cool i've mounted I've already posted - but in keeping with the spirit of the post here are two "works in progress"  you rare bird lovers might enjoy  ;o)  (I did manage to get full replacement feathers for the broken argus wing secondaries - just can't decide on a full display pose or a flying pose - your thoughts ?)
