I've got a snake to do and I can't find the right size form. Can someone do a casting tutorial with pics? I did a search for "casting a snake form" but nothing came up.

Thanks in advance  Wink

I did a cast of a snake with alginate. Just lay the snake out how you want it positioned, and use pins to stop it from moving when you pore, and pore some alginate over it.
You may want to use clay around it to act as a damn so it doesn't go everywhere. The alginate will go off really quick (2-3 minutes) so you have to be fast.
After it goes off, just flip the mold over and slowly pull the snake out. Now you just mix a 50/50 mix of bondo and resin (with both hardeners added) and pore it into the mold. After it hardens sand all the scale detail off and your ready to go.
This is one I did. As you can see, it picks up a lot of the detail.

Here is his head.

BTW If you get some foam and pin the snake to it in the pose you want, outline around the snake with a marker and then you can carve it out of the foam and cast a head the way I just explained and use it on the form. Page 181 in the 2008 WASCO catalog, under foam blocks shows how to do it. (sorry, I don't have the new one yet, so the page # may be different.)
As it was explained to me you just mix the alginate and hang the snake head in a dixie cup and pore just enough alginate to cover the head and a little of the neck. After it sets up, slide the head out of the mold and pore your bondo/resin mix in the mold.
