Maceration sal soda

Got a skull in a maceration bucket on 90 degrees. If I add Sal soda to this will it help speed up the process, or do a better job? I boiled a skull on slow boil to simmering and it did not degrease it. Will the Sal soda help degrease, or doesn't it have any benifits?

i have put a few packets of yeast in macerating skulls......and worked good.

Depends on species, I have used Sal soda aka powdered FAB and it does degrease in low temp of 120F. But it works better than liquid Tide.
Yeast is an enzyme and I dont know how well it would degrease.

Sal soda will kill all of the bacteria that is cleaning your skull, so no, it will not speed up your process...

soada ash is what you should try . boil with soada ash for about 20-25 min. take out scrap the grizzle off and hose it in clean water. use a bleach and dawn dish soap to de grease . get the witener from suply house its a paste you put on . not all that cheep. you can check archives for the % of peroxicd to use . , mark c

I was told not to boil the skull as it would damage the bone. I am doing a whitetail.

Sal soda is in the WASCO BReakthrough books and catalog..

Where and the hell did the bleach you mention come from??

Dawn and Chlorine bleach will release a small amount of chlorine gas.  NOT GOOD

Hey all....  new to taxidermy here,  trying my hand at it....  but I do know this for sure,   Im a rawhide braider,  took me forever to figure out how to bleach the hides to a pretty white...  all the old timers would not share their secrets....  but I finally figured it out,  back when I cut hair,  I got some peroxide on my hands and they turned white....   cut to the chase,   40 volume peroxide,  get it at your local beauty supply by the gallons if you need....(the cream works best)  I just take a sponge brush, paint it on as thick as you can,  it must be in open air and the sun's heat does it wonders!!  I "simmered"  a skull and cleaned it as good as possible,  peroxide & about 30 minutes in the sun,,,,,   brite white!!

OK guys, I started the maceration process 3 days ago and the smell was to much for the neighbors, being the flesh was already rotting,so I pulled it out cleaned off all possible including brains. I simmered it in Sal soda for about 1 to 1&1/2 hours and it is looking very clean. Question, do I need to pull all the teeth and clean the socket out? I was reading somewhere in the archives where someone said you have to pull them and clean. I now have the skull soaking in HOT water and Dawn. How can you tell all the grease is out before you whiten and clear coat it? Sorry for being long winded but I want a happy customer  years from now.
