For some reason I decided to make my own ear inserts.
I now use earliners, and I cut out the inner part of the ear when I remove the cartilage.
I started with the piece of inner ear that I removed from the ear (I know I should have used a fresh ear, but I didn't have one)
I built a dam around the inner ear to hold it in position.

Poured slow set silicone inside of the ear.

I let it set overnight.

Then I remove the silicone plug from the clay and cartilage. Trim it up.

cleaned the silicone plug and I stuck a wire into the silicone plug, so it would have a handle. and a hook for hanging.

mixed out some por kast dipped the silicone plug inside. also using a popsicle stick I put por kast into the deep crevices. Let it set. Than I dipped them again and let is set.

after it has set I removed the casting from the plug, then trimmed up the flashing.

There you have it a Hoss's ear insert.

Near the final stages of mounting the deer, insert the ear insert. after it has dried and you are doing epoxie work. roll a little snake of epoxie, place it on the edge of the insert and feather it out along the edges with a modeling tool.
Hope this helps,
Hoss
