how do you create water?

wondering if any one had a tutorial for creating water with ripples and such for the base; hoping to have some twigs underneath so you could see through....
best thing ive thought of so far is clear gauche paint but that dries slightly opaque and takes forever to dry. or silicone? idk ill see what you lot have to say
