Something smells fishy?

« on: November 04, 2009, 06:17:32 PM »

I just got offered a wholesale job today. Now what? I am not that good of a businessman and I am not sure what to expect. How much to charge. They want me to mount and paint. But they will put on driftwood or do the habitat work. I am right now not making enough money to worry about the business end of what I am doing . But if I go into wholesale that is a different ballgame. Their shop takes in 30-40 fish per year.Which is 3-4 times more than what I take in currently.I would be their only fish guy.

I get $9.00/in for exactly that, but your prices should reflect what YOU need to make. Figure your cost and set your price, and if it is too high then you didn't want that business anyway.

Depending on what they(and you) charge on the retail end, the above information is right on.  You should get somewhere between 70 - 75% of retail for the job you described.

Need to look at your supplies and time spent.....supplies and shipping can eat up your profit very quick.

Rick,
Good advice above and also make sure you get the agreement in writing and signed. Congrats on the offer.
