I am going to try to do my first fox rug with whole head mounted.  I was thinking of ordering Breakthrough mammal taxidermy manual to help me with splitting lips, turning ears, etc..  Is this a good reference for this?  thanks

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Yes, I believe it is!  It really details what you need to do in the skinning, skin prep, salting, and even tanning if you are so inclined.  But for a rug, send the skin off to a Tannery, and it will be nice and soft when you get it back!  Best of luck to you.

John.

Thankyou all for actually answering the question!  I posted this question in current events section where all the "pros" hang out and all I got mostly were smart ass answers.  Fred Jr., are you selling the video?

It's a really good general knowledge book to have.  If you think you might want more of them, it was worth it for me getting the book membership from WASCO to get the discounts.  I open mine up more than I thought I would & it's great material to have on hand.  The bird manual is great too- as is the whitetail manual.
