What size mounting plate?

I know what wood plaque i'm going to use, but what size of these: http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/product/30200004/deer-horn-mounting-plate4  should I use?  There is a medium and a large.  It says 2 1/2 inches between the holes on the medium and 3" between them on the large, does this mean between where the antlers come through?  Thanks for any help, I've never done one of these before.
