Part time 9 mo to 1 year and even if I get the mount done before that time I hold it until 9 mo comes around. If you give your customer their mount sooner they expect it from you all the time. I've had this happen before. Also I don't have a large work load, I just make sure I give myself all the time I need.

Follis, one of the things that will set you apart in this industry is your ability to quickly and accurately produce quality work. by intentionally holding mounts for 9 months, you cannot possibly be doing yourself any good. beside we all know that the majority of our work that we do comes in during deer season, and thats a short time. now i've mounted several deer in less than 10 days thats not the issue. but you gotta think your going 3/4 of the year with no profit. obviously its up to you but i think you would find that if you explain to your clients that they will get their mounts back based off of work load and give them an approximate time frame, then you will allow yourself time to work at a good pace as well as keep a decent cash flow. to answer the turn around time question. i usually say 3-5 months for early deer season and spring mounts, then 6-8 for those that come in during the heat of the two gun seasons since i am very close to the boarder.

I agree with KAMO hunter. You could be hurting yourself in the long run.

I'm part time and I run 3-6 months for most jobs. I just got a bear finished in a month and that's about as quick as I've ever finished one.

Depends, sometimes 30 days, somtimes 9 months. One thing I have to be VERY careful of is what I did last year. I got around 150 shoulder mounts and had them all done in 6 months. Well July, august, september & October would get a little scary come bill time. I found work to get me through, but you can work yourself right out of a job

I don't hold onto the mounts and then call, I get them done and hold on to the money to pay the bills later on.
My turn around time is dictated by how many I get in and I work at a pace to get them done, so the customer doesn't forget his hunt or what the rack looks like. I can't tell you how many times folks say they can't believe their mount was complete.
Quick story; my friend was up for bow season, shot a 13 point on Nov. 2, and he picked it up last night and on his way home today. Advantage of a pressure tanner, and great service from the supply companies for products.

Haven't been too busy or overwhelmed, but I am trying to get a two month turn around at this time. I am sure that will change as my business grows and I start taking in more work.
