George I agree with everything you said. It has happened just as you describe  ( except for playing with my ass) LOL. Lack of family time was somthing I realized was a serious problem and that I had to incorporate help into the shop. Some times you have to realize you can't do it all. I'm no stranger to the burn out that you describe. But taking some time for my self and my family away seems to help a lot.

Matt, I don't want my having said that to be any indication that I have a grasp on such things, nor that how relieved I am to hear you say that means anything, but I am.  I'd just hate to see someone allow their "work" to become their "life" and miss out on all the beauty that life can bring.

great advice from george on this one.....too many hours at work and you will miss the true treasures in life...your family and friends and the memories you make with them....money can not replace that..the older i get the more i see that the folks that keep material things in life simple are truly the happiest...once the babies have grown up and left home then you realize that can never be replaced.  seen to many guys work there arses off and then drop dead at an early age ....then the money does you no good

One thing I try to do is to make time for things that I or my family enjoy. There's a pearl in what you say George and I take heed of it. And I have arranged things to help lighten the load. Thank you George.

I don't specify a time, "as soon as I can" is about as good as it gets.  I wish I could do the 2-5 month turn around I see people offering, but by the time I get capes back from the tannery that is a good 3 months unless I pay for express tanning. Then add fish and birds and only doing this part-time and family time. and I am busyer than a one armed paper hanger.   How do you get the 10 day turn around on getting a deer put together?

I don't have a time on my contract, but will shoot an estimate of 3 - 6 months, but tell them if I get more deer in, that it could be longer.

...you need to raise your prices and take in less work but still make the same amount of money.
Plus have even more time for your family !

All my work is out of here come spring time, cause I like to go camping and it would seriously cut into MY fun time.

I'm comfortable with my prices although I'm on the lower end for my area. Deer $450 Antelope $450 Elk $ $850. Those are pretty much the main stays. I agree with what your saying Bobbie. I learned long ago that you can't work for peanuts. I make time for myself and my family. They come first that's a must.
