Does any one have any bright ideas on creating a replica of Devils Tower for a base for my antelope??? I would like it fairly accurate and recognizable when done

Good lord you must have a tall shop! Will your customers even be able to see the Antelope sitting on top of it? LOL
I doubt that most people would recognize it unless they lived in that area. You can sure try it and see.

Unless I missed something in the first post, I don't see where he wants to build a "full scale" replica. It's an interesting idea, but I think that few would recognize it for anything other than a "rock". Certainly there must be enough photos of Devils Tower on the internet to create an accurate replica. The largest problem that I see, would be making the vegetation at the base proportional to the tower itself. I don't think that even N scale railroad materials would be small enough. It is something I though of at one time, but I had in mind a group of running speed goats(3 or 4) with one foot of each attached to the top of the replica tower(approx. 3' high), but I never had the time to try it. The title, of course, "Devils's Herd".

get photos of it from different angles, should be able to find them online. then print on acetate, and use overhead projector to match size you want, make a pattern, and carve out of foam..

wooden frame, covered with plaster and burlap, the covered with rock mix from head quarters taxidermy supply. (you can sculpt the creases it their rock mix sculpts very nicely) then with really watered down black paint, spray the rock mix. Bammm you have the Devils tower.
for the tree I would order the miniature tree they use in railroad train scenes.
hope this helps,
Hoss

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Get a copy of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and watch Richard Dreyfus's character go slightly mad building Devils Tower! There are so many views of their tower in the movie. And you can pause DVDs for as long as you need.

The tower is a crystalline rock formation.. Large hexagon crystals make up the tower. the ruble around the bottom is huge, large as a house and that is the size of the crystal.
That is why it looks like petrified wood.

The core of the volcano cooled rather quickly cause this crystal in effect..
Tons of photos in the link. I believe its 1.3 miles around the walk at the base... Been a few years since I walked it.
