Is the customer always right??

I just finished a coyote that the customer wanted in the defensive pose. First off..the coyote was a late spring one with nappy fur...really nappy fur. It was shedding real bad and had tons of "fur balls". I told the customer that this coyote was not the best to invest in. He wanted it mounted anyways.. I did the best I could do to get out as many of the fur balls as possible. Being in the defensive pose the ears should have been back. He wanted them up..in an alert pose. He also wanted it on a white base! I tried to talk him out of it but that wasn't happening. Should I have turned the job down? Most of my work comes from referrals.

To answer your question, no the customer is not always right. If that is what they wanted, then they will have to live with it. This is where educating the customer comes in, although sometimes you can only do so much.

I put my observations and recommendations on the job order where I also write out the customer's instructions/preferences, then have them sign it, take the money and mount it. When the customer makes requests that are questionable that I feel may lead to them not wanting the mount after its mounted, I ask for a much larger deposit, even payment in full if I have serious doubts. When the customer is wrong, he still right as long as he pays for it and signs off on it being his/her decision. Like George says, "stupid oughta hurt," It should cost too! All things considered, you did a good job on the mount. With the pins out and a good grooming the customer may be plenty happy with it. Good luck!

Looks like it has a serious overbite issue. Is that the way it was? The end of the nose is was past the lower lip.

As long as the customer is happy all is good. Did he have any complaint?
