birdworks will you post a close up of your pintails head? the eye looks awesome
Eric, that pintail has left the building, but I tried to zoom in on the pic that I had to show the eye better.
GA, All of the habitat in the ptarmigan piece came from Michael's or Hobby Lobby with the exeption of the small red bush behind the lower bird; that was gathered from the mountains near Florence, Montana with Wingman. With that said, that Eye Set on the bull sprig is also the result of advanced training with Wingman. He has shown me many times how even substandard birds can have life added to them with a
proper
eyeset, which I can't always pull off, but certainly keep trying.
Thanks for the nice feedback -
Matt

Birdworks, is that duck in the lower right hand corner a redhead x ringneck?
Nancy, I've had several people ask that same question, but in reality it is just a very, very good Ringer from the late season here in Texas. When I take my pics I usually just use the sun coming through the window to illuminate my birds with a cheap digital camera, but when it is too overcast, I use the professional camera lights that I bought from Rick (RR Gamebirds). That was the case with this bird as the maroon in the head was above and beyond the normal and I wanted to illuminate it.
I want to thank folks again for all the nice comments ..keeps a guy (or gal) motivated to try to keep getting better...and as always a big thanks to my friend and Master Bird Taxidermist, Wingman for helping me to take my birds to the next level.

I haven't had a chance to get any pictures taken recently. All the work just gets done and goes out. My wife, the photographer, has been working too much and I have been hunting too much. I still look in on BOTW all the time and it just gets better and better. I'll throw in some cell phone shots of unfinished work just to waste space...
A group of birds heading back to Washington soon...
A badly pin-feathered Mandarin
Just work being done here. Keep posting all the great inspiration!!! I love this ongoing thread.

Beautiful birds everybody!! I love to see all the nice work here each week.
My lighting is the worst, so sorry for that. But I had to come on here and say "Thank You" to George, aka Lov2bhntn...for helping me out with my freezer problem this fall!
I wish I had some better pictures to show you, but these will have to do! Now, time to study some photography tips lol!

Wow,
Lots of wonderful birds this week, to many to name...but some great stuff. Here is a South Dakota Pheasant shot by yours truly 2 weeks ago. I mounted it for my good friend Andy from South Dakota. He let me and my friends hunt his private property. What a awesome man.
I used the real neck, in combination of a artificial head on this SD pheasant. He had 27" long tail feathers, and the spurs...great hooks!
I hope he likes it.
