another thing I just thought of you know those sanitizers they use in bathrooms that spray every so often you could fill it with water and set it to fit your desired humidity. just a thought they run on batteries

RD gave you the easy answer. Just cover the dermestarium or block up the ingress/egress or air. I use an aquarium with a screen cover and when the humidity is low I simply place a plastic cover over the aquarium keeping the humidity that remains in the overnight dried skulls inside the enclosure. As RD said, you can adjust the opening to be 1/2 open, 3/4 open, etc. and it has worked for 28 years here so far. If I overestimate the amount of humidity inside the enclosure in winter when the humidity is low, humidity will build up and condense on the sides of the aquarium, but by simply uncovering the top it dries up overnight. Why use electrical humidifiers or dehumidifiers or fans or anything electrical - keep it simple and let the beetles do their work.

Thanks RD and PA.

The bowl of water did absolutely nothing...still 20% this morning.

Will close the 2 vents and see what happens.

Josh, we have real low humidity here in Colorado but I have noticed if you put in a frozen preped head it will bring it all up.  I did a elk a few weeks ago that had water dripping off the roof of my tank, smelled horible, but was very humid in there.  The only vent I have on my tank is on the side, with no fan.  I actually have a fan on the hole right now to try and dry the thing out.  Try droping one in with out drying and see.

How are you removing the horns. If you simmer , you might have cooked and dried out the meat. When you sweat, the flesh is nice and moist . I sweat them then freeze to kill any invasive insects then thaw and toss in. Humidity comes up about 15 to 20% . Is your bug numbers up ? Antelope should only take two days tops

I bag the horns off. No simmering here.
Then wash off the gunk...and freeze.
My numbers seem to be doing fine....no problems there.

I prep real good....

Not sure.

Okay...

Put a frozen head in last night....no difference.  Still 20% this morning.

This is pissing me off...I prepped this one even better to see if it is my numbers are not strong enough or if the skull is getting dry too fast.  We shall see.

I have it vented outside...I am gonna cover that vent cause I think the air is coming in and keeping the humidity down.

 Heat + Moisture + "LIMITED" Incoming/Escaping air = Humidity
