what makes a client yours?
ummm, an existing customer, someone already using your services, maybe even someone you set up on the hunt , etc.

Crittercorner, no-one is saying anything about competition. Ethics is what is in question.
That's why I'm looking for another tannery.

let me get this right you guys are giving WG the names of your clients by sending things to them direct and then wondering why they BLAH BLAH you guys need a new box of rocks, they do great tanning! hey here is an idea don't give them the names "Waa-Laa" problem solved. NEXT.
sounds like any other business to me. Realitor, cable companies, insurance. If someone brought a caribou or elk or deer to your shop cause he killed it in your area but just wanted you to skin it and for him are you telling me you would'nt try to keep n your shop to mount?
Wow, you have just taken the lead for the most ignorant thing I have heard in a long time. I wonder if it even deserves a response........well I am bored so here goes. My client got my card at a sporting goods store when he saw my work. Put it in his pocket and took it to Canada hunting Caribou. He gets 2 Caribou, and decides to have them mounted. The guide he was using salted them and advised him to send them to the WG to be tanned. Client agrees. Client gets home and calls me. This is where I enter the picture. He lets me know the hides are on the way to the WG and that he wants them sent to me for me to do the mounts locally. I agree. Client then receives a couple calls from the WG asking if he has a taxidermist, to which he says he has one locally. Client then gets the speech about how he can get them mounted by the WG faster, and at better quality. Client says no, send them to his taxidermist. Has the same call a few days later, answers the same way. Now would I normally give a tannery my client list.....hell no. But when that client said he had a taxidermist, that should have been the end of it. It was not, and the client let me know. That is where I drew the line and said they will get no more of my business.....EVER. So before you just run off at the mouth get your facts straight. If you want to help them profit because they give you a great tan, go for it. They will be sure to get your hides back to you AFTER they have already tanned and mounted hides for clients they took from you. Just plain bad business for me to give them any of my money.

yes OMG COMPETITION TACTICS !!!!!
If that makes you speechless then I would hate to think of you knowing what I know about competition in the industry....It might just cuase you to go insane LOL!!!!
ssssooo for all of this conversation, we have a couple of attempts to get clients and one or two "i know some dermist that~~"...........What is factual is that those tactics didnt seem to work as the dermists in questiuon still got the trophies to mount.... Its called LOYALTY, which in my neck of the woods stands for quite alot... I know of no client that is willing to send his valuabnle trophy to some annonymous shop. they like to know feel and see their dermist and arent easily persuaded elsewhere.....

Ron....this is a tanney that is calling it's clients clients!! These people are PAYING Wildlife Gallery to TAN their hides, NOT CONTACT their [expletive deleted]ing clients! Are you really that brain dead?! They called his client twice after being told I AM SENDING IT THERE FOR MY TAXIDERMIST!
That's not competition, it's a crook! And in reality is probably against U.S. antitrust laws.
I love ya Ron.....but you're an idiot.

I have no illusions about "competition" in this industry. However I don't plan on helping my competition to my clients.
Give us your best "horror" stories.

This is exactly what is the concern brought up. Not how the taxidermy shop is competing, but your tannery working against you when you are their customer.
What happened to the customer is always right?

It's raining here. Sorry Ron, after your several months long rant against McKenzie you surprised me....I mean after all, McKenzie never called me and told me that I shouldn't use Joe Coombs or WASCO.

This is the same BS suffered by Dennis Harris on pricing threads hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............

I dont have any african clients. I dont expect I ever will from this area. But just the fact that WG has been pulling this BS tactic on other dermists is enough to make me NEVER use them. I will in fact steer other dermists away from them, like students etc or anyone who asks my opinion of them. I believe in solidarity where possible.

agreed Bill....Ive agreed several times in this thread, but im still called an idiot....
This will no doubt have an effect on WGs intake of tanning....but for every effect there is cuase,,,,and in this case it will be WG CONCENTRATING on taxidermy....so it will be a loose loose for the rest of us.....Just like supply companies becoming corporate giants as i can see no good come of these situations.......DEEP pockets like that will simply steam-roll ya........

Team Effort. The same people doing the tanning are NOT the same people doing the taxidermy work. Their building steam. If they were a private enterpris no-one would care, however when they are trying to be both wholesale and retail that bends me. They WERE my tannery. I don't see KcKenzie calling my deer head customers trying to steal them. Same difference.
I do wholesale european mounts for other taxi's. Would it be ok if I called each hunter and tried to sell to them directly?? I think not. So why is it ok for WG to do it? Don't some of you do wholesale bird or fish work? Should I consider that you might call my customer directly? Think about it. Not something I would want happening to me, and I wouldn't think you would either.
