Thats so cool!  I also have a paper deer form in my posession as well Smiley  Here's a deer I got...was mounted back in 1948!  He even had paper/resin earliners with wood wool stuffed in the bases.  I didn't end up taking pics of the paper form after I tore him apart...here's what he looked like before;  not bad for 1948!  The back of the plaque has the history of the deer, where/when it was shot and by whom. After that is a list of all the previous owners!

Really neat stuff ehh??!!

Interesting Leslie.  The first attempt I made at mounting a deer was at Lake of The Woods on the Minnesota border in 1971. It too was a remount, and to my amazement the earliners were cut from sheet lead. Paper liners were the norm. I was going to say it might be some of George's early work, but the writing tells the tale.  Shucks !!:D Cheesy

Believe it or not, at the time the paper forms were an advancement in the world of taxidermy.  They were much easier, and faster than wrapping your own, and using the skull.  Taxidermists in those days had a closed door policy, trade "secrets" were not shared freely like they are today. Shows how far the industry has come. Thanks for the trip down memory lane ladies, I think ?  Undecided

ROTFLMAO  "save it, it might be worth some money one day"....  FROM WHO???  LMAO  Burn that POS so our future generations won't laugh at us.  Actually, they're not "rare" at all and likely won't ever be.  I know one guy who still has the MOLDS those POS were made from.

But you are correct, they certainly were an improvement over the skull screwed into a 2x4, wrapped with excelsior, sewn, plastered and then mounting the hide.  The biggest complaint was that you couldn't get the "right size" as there weren't that many choices.  You ordered them big, wet them down and then sewed the hide on it to compress it so one size fit all.  Those aren't bad looking eyes to some I've seen over the years.

My Dad has a mount on the wall that is a paper form, from 1972.
That one that Leslie bought is pretty good looking actually. The first one shown is not, because the ears look ridiculous!

I have maybe 20 plaster molds in store if anyone wants a paper form I could whip one out at a very reasonable price (to me that is)!  I think I paid $20 for each mold when the old taxidermist sold out to me back in '69!  Wow, how time flies!!!!!

Yes, and Leslie's 1948 buck would have been considered a top notch job for a long time.  Wink  I knew you wouldn't miss this one George, thought you might send me to my room to read your book again !!  Grin

nobody really knows the history of this mount given to me. just that its sat in a mansion for atleast the last 48 years. i'm probably gonna redo it this summer. any tips? never taken one apart before...... i've also thought about leaving it together. once i redo it its just another mount but as is kind of an antique. any thoughts?

That's turning back some time. 1975 was the year i was born.I live about 10 miles from where that was manufactured. Here in upstate NY. Bob is still doing taxidermy and supplies. I personally do not know him very well. I just thought it was cool to see something like that with a familiar name. Thanks for sharing
