ears slipping
«

Just finished my first 2 batches of tanned hides using lutan, just wallhangers. Did about 10 coons and 2 coyotes. After I got everything dried and tumbled I turned the hides fur side out and everything was fine except for the ears on both coyotes slipped. I didn't turn anything because I was just doing wall hangers and didn't think it would be necessary. Any ideas on what caused this problem? Should I have salted better to start with, do I just need to learn how to turn the ears? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Yotes and foxes are bad for slipping if not turned. Not always but may also depended on the time from death to solutions.

One of my yotes had the same problem when I was tanning it. The ears are really bad about slipping. I was recommended to try and leave the ears alone until it was totally dry (and done tanning). I've bought a couple of other yote/fox skins already tanned and they all seem to have a little hair loss on the ears. Anyway, try to leave the ears alone best as you can until they're all done.

Open them & salt dry them. You should have no problem. I have never had any yotes or fox slip.
