Nope not washing soda baking soda the stuff you can cook with and neutralize acids. Many times the lack of stretch in leather is the cape is still acidic as it nears the neutral point the leather relaxes.

Baking soda is to Washing soda as Borax is to Boraxo hand soap.  It aint the same.
