Joe,
I did it.  I got 60% disability and went to school  in Pennsylvania.  I am from Colorado.  They paid me a living stipend and then enrolled me into an OJT program and paid me for another year.  They bought me all the innitial supplies and coordinated the OJT thru my employer.  The trick is finding an employer who is willing to go thru the BS.  It worked out well for me and I have been full time Taxidermying for 4 years now.  Stay on course and MAKE the VA do their job.  The catch is..as others have told you...it must be a VA approved vender.  E-mail me if you want.... I live in Germany now and commute back and forth doing my taxidermy job and living as a tourist in Germany.  mt_fuji@hotmail.com

That's the problem Timberliner, YOU have to make them do there jobs because they won't unless you are on their ass constantly.  I've figured this out since being medically retired (15 yrs).  There is hope but you have to NOT be a nice guy and treat them like your C.O. or anyone in your chain of command, they are not!  They work for you, make them work and BE the squeaky wheel.

I went to Stony Hills Taxidermy School (Minnesota) in 2007 through Vocational Rehab.  It took me about a year to get through all the paperwork but it was worth it.  They not only paid for my school, they paid for all my supplies plus about $2000.00 worth of tools.  To top it off, I got a check a month for three months after I graduated so I could get my business up and running.  It is well worth the effort.

I went to school thru voc rehab, but they sent me through the independent living program. They paid for everything, plane fare, food allowance @ $35. a day, room and board, shipping all my mounts back to Ga. And after I Graduated from school they bought everything I need to set up shop, including this computer. All states are different; Steve (owner of the school I went to said that a fellow from Montana went to school shortly after I did and all they paid for was the school

I had my second meeting with my counselor the 1st week of Jan and he said everything should be fine. It took me calling his supervisor after the 1st meeting and causing a stink. If I hadnt done that there was no way it would have been approved.

It looks like you have to be the squeaky wheel with the VA to get anything done. Ill be retiring in a year and a half and going through the same process. Stay with it and good luck Joe. Keep the tips handy for me.

How did you get them to give you a pay check for 3 months? My counselor said that I had to get a job for at least 90 days after Im done with school

Not sure - I didn't even know I was going to get the extra money until the counselor went through all the paperwork with me just before I went to the school.
